CARY SMITH couldn't stand the idea of paying big bucks for a new TV stand and entertainment center. Everything she looked at was too industrial, newish looking or had too much glass and laminated woods. When she at first saw this 1960 all wood dresser base, she loved it but didn't need the drawers. It was high and long and had what appeared to be exotic burls and veneers, but they were so lightly stained, they were hardly noticeable.
After several visits to the store, she decided to acquire it and lacquer it black - but she hated to cover the burls. So we suggested to lacquer only the casing in black and re-stain the burls a darker stain. At the very least, she could always lacquer the cabinet black at a later date. Needless to say, when she saw the finished product, it was clear the right decision was made. The drawers were cut down to accommodate her DVD player and her cable box, and the right drawers were replaced with an adjustable shelf for her children's games.
Total cost including the furniture - less than $2000.
